A journey inside the comic book

<< Didactic workshop >>

The Foundation don Lorenzo Guetti, in collaboration with Nicola Sardo, artist and expert of narrative theater, proposed the realisation of a laboratory based on the history of Lorenzo Guetti (1847-1898) through the disassembling and reassembling of words and images of the graphic novel, recently published.

The project has students of second and third classes of middle school and students of first and second classes of high school as audience/addressees.

The objectives of the project are:
1) introducing to the young people don Lorenzo Guetti’s life, mindset and activities;
2) introducing the social, economic and political situation in Trentino in the late 1800s;
3) Introducing the origins of the Trentino cooperation;
4) Introducing typical language mechanisms of comic books and narrative theatres.

During the 2-hour laboratory, the expert will analyse don Lorenzo Guetti’s life, through a playful style, the active involvement of students and the use of the comic book “Lorenzo Guetti. A time to sow and a time to reap ” by Gabriel Ba and Riccardo Paglierini, printed by Beccogiallo in 2018.

The expert will suggest a deconstruction of the comic book, both conceptual and physical. The comic book will be physically disassembled into multiple pieces (clippings of photocopies) and young people will be asked to recreate its story anew. The deconstruction will permit to start from the pieces that compose the comic book; this work of recomposition of historical and biographical pieces will get students to make questions, which are typical of the work of writing and dramaturgy, and at the same time analyse the key steps of Guetti’s life and of Trentino in late ‘800s.
In order to rebuild the story and the comic book Nicola Sordo will use different sources like web tools that will allow to look for information that is useful to recompose the pieces which were clipped from the comic book.
The laboratory will end with the expert summarising Lorenzo Guetti’s story, the story of the Trentino of that time and of the origins of the cooperative phenomenon through the recovery of images (taken from the comic book) and the use of words and key concepts which came up during the revision work made by the guys in the first part of the meeting.

The cost of the laboratory is entirely at the expense of the Foundation.
